Frieda Clara Kurtt, 99, of Waverly, Iowa, and formerly of Denver, Iowa and Yakima, Washington, died on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly, Iowa.

Frieda was born on November 2, 1910, the daughter of Fred H. and Christine C. (Schmidt) Kurtt. She attended the Denver School System graduating from the Denver High School in 1929. Following her schooling, Frieda went to work for the Chamberlain Manufacturing Company in Waterloo. On November 11, 1943, she entered the U.S. Marine Corps Women's Reserve in Seattle, Washington, and was stationed in Cherry Point, North Carolina. Frieda was honorably discharged on January 23, 1946, and returned to Denver, Iowa. In December of 1946, she moved to Yakima, Washington, where she was employed with the Rainier Bank as a clerk from 1947 until she retired in 1975. Following her retirement she continued to live in Yakima, until September 1, 1999, when she moved to Waverly to be closer to her family. In 2006 she moved to assisted living at the Linden Place and then to Woodland Terrace, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in 2008, where she peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 7th 2010.
She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver, and is a 64 year member of the Acker-Matthias American Legion Post # 653 in Denver. Frieda was a former member of the Central Lutheran Church in Yakima. She loved her 52 years spent in Yakima, where she enjoyed the mountains, and attending the symphony and community concerts with her friends.
Frieda is survived by her two sisters, Dorothea (Duts) Gleason of Waverly, Iowa, Marie Meyne of Waverly, Iowa; two brothers, Arthur W Kurtt of Denver, Iowa, and John F Kurtt and his wife, Laurel of Waverly, Iowa. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Virginia Kurtt of Denver, Iowa and a special niece, Barbara (Brunstein) Ecker Blachford of Chicago and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Elenora (Kurtt) Brunstein; two brothers, Erwin J. Kurtt and Harold J Kurtt; one sister-in-law, Mildred Kurtt and two brother-in-laws, Waldo Gleason and Willard Meyne.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Denver, Iowa. Burial will held in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Denver, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, Iowa.
