Gordon W. Niemeyer, 90, of Tripoli, Iowa, died on Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly, Iowa.
Gordon was born on September 30, 1919 in rural Readlyn, Iowa, the son of Edward and Clara (Judas) Niemeyer. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Readlyn. He graduated from Tripoli High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to Violet Ambrose on December 9, 1939 at Grace Lutheran Church, Tripoli, Iowa. He retired as a meat cutter from Bostrom's Super Value in West Union, Iowa. Gordon enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, and hunting. He is survived by a daughter, Sue Kreis of Cedar Falls, Iowa; son, Richard Niemeyer of Palm Springs, California; daughter, Jan (Jerry) Miller of Waterloo, Iowa; and a daughter, Brenda Tegtmeier of Tripoli, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Sarah Tegtmeier, Laura Tegtmeier, Hannah (Jesse) Bro, Mary Miller, Matt Miller; Jeff (Vonda) Kreis, Scott Kreis, and Tracy (Brad) Atchison; five great grandchildren, Mellisa Kreis, Holly Kreis, Lily Atchison, Clara Atchison and Olivia Bro and one brother, Hollis Niemeyer of Tripoli, Iowa. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Violet on January 17, 2008, three sisters, Helen Norris, Leila Garland and Ivadelle Niemeyer; one brother, Nelson Niemeyer and a grandson, Steve Kreis. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 10:30 am at St. Paul's Lutheran Congregation, Siegel, Tripoli, Iowa. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Siegel. Military Rites at the grave will be conducted by the Thomas E. Woods American Legion, Post #223, Sumner, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, in Denver, Iowa. Memorials can be directed to the family.
